Morocco Launches Crackdown on Illegal Beach Rentals Ahead of Summer Season

The summer season is approaching and, in order to allow vacationers to better enjoy the Moroccan beaches, the public authorities have started an operation to liberate these spaces.
This action aims to implement strict measures against people who exploit these beaches and impose very high prices on vacationers. Generally, these are individuals who, by applying for parking lot operating licenses, turn the beaches into a private space, offered for rent to vacationers.
Initiated at the beaches of Casablanca and Fnideq, which were the subject of previous complaints, the indicated operation has allowed the seizure of several chairs and the closure of unauthorized kiosks.
To counter the abusive practices, the authorities have placed parasols on the different beaches, free of charge, setting the price of the chairs at five dirhams. Offenders will be exposed to penalties ranging from the withdrawal of the operating license to referral to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
