Morocco to Launch Direct Housing Aid for First-Time Buyers, Says Budget Minister

The delegate minister in charge of the budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, announced the upcoming implementation of a system of direct housing assistance for first-time buyers.
This device will soon be operational, assured Fouzi Lekjaa during a recent intervention before the deputies at the House of Representatives, stating that "the decree relating to direct support for the acquisition of housing is in the final preparation phase and will be implemented in the coming weeks".
"The approach was, in recent years, based on supporting demand, through tax exemptions for owners or developers who offer housing, while the government has decided since 2022, after the expiry of the tax measures, to move towards the revival of demand by directly subsidizing families who buy a home," explains Fouzi Lekjaa.
The text was drawn up by the Ministry of Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy, with the participation of all the players in the sector, reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc, recalling that Minister Fatima-Zahra El Mansouri had announced the taking of a decree relating to direct support, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The reform aims to secure the home acquisition process and give a boost to the sector, hard hit by the Covid-19 health crisis and the cancellation of contracts under social housing programs. "A series of reforms is expected in 2024 to make the value added tax (VAT) fairer," Fouzi Lekjaa also said.
