Morocco’s Largest Wind Farm to Double Capacity in $170 Million Upgrade

The repowering work on the Nassim Koudia Al Baida wind farm will soon be launched. The financing of this project initiated by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has just been completed and the commissioning is scheduled for the 2nd quarter of 2024.
This project is financed through commercial loans from both national and international banks, announced Masen, supported by its partner EDF Renewables. These are AttijariWafa bank, Banque Centrale Populaire, Bank of Africa, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Société Générale France.
Ultimately, the new energy infrastructure will double the production capacity to 100 MW instead of the initial 50 MW installed in 2000. It will meet the consumption needs of about 420,000 inhabitants and prevent the emission of the equivalent of 308,000 tons of CO₂ per year, it is pointed out.
The financial closing of Nassim Koudia Al Baida announces the immediate launch of the construction work on the wind farm, including the manufacture of the blades, carried out by Siemens-Gamesa in its factory in Tangier, the same source specifies.
