Morocco's King Unveils Comprehensive Social Aid Program for Vulnerable Families

King Mohammed VI, in a speech delivered at the opening of the parliamentary session, announced the introduction of a social assistance program at the end of 2023.

The Sovereign stated that this initiative "concretizes the values of social solidarity that Moroccans carry in their DNA," specifying that this aid would not be limited to family allowances. "This support program is intended for school-age children, children with disabilities and newborns. In addition, it is dedicated to poor and disadvantaged families, without school-age children, particularly households caring for the elderly."

The earthquake that struck Marrakech was also mentioned by the king, highlighting the reconstruction efforts. "We insist on the need to continue to provide aid and assistance to the affected families, to undertake with haste the upgrading and reconstruction of the affected areas," he said. A budget of 12 billion Dhs has been allocated for these rehabilitation operations.

For King Mohammed VI, "this tragedy provides a valuable lesson: the authentic values of the Moroccan soul have prevailed, the very ones that have always allowed our country to overcome crises and adversities."

Addressing the revision of the Family Code, the Moudawana, the King recalled his letter addressed to the head of government. "Since the family is the basic cell of society according to the terms of the Constitution, We always strive to bring together the favorable conditions to strengthen its cohesion," he concluded, emphasizing the importance of family cohesion in Moroccan society.
