Morocco’s King Omits Spain Relations in Throne Speech, Raising Questions

In his speech delivered on July 31 on the occasion of the Throne Feast, King Mohammed VI did not mention the normalization of relations with Spain, let alone the possible reopening of commercial borders in Melilla.
This silence from Mohammed VI on the normalization of relations with Spain could mean that he takes this new stage in the relationship with this country for granted, or on the contrary that he attaches little importance to cooperation with the latter, analyzes El Faro de Melilla, recalling that the change in Spain’s position on the Sahara, considered the "most serious, credible and realistic basis" for resolving the conflict, has led to the easing of tensions between the two countries.
At the same time, the Moroccan monarch clearly expressed his wish to see the borders with Algeria "become bridges." A way to reach out to Algeria to normalize relations, believes Jesús Delgado Aboy, president of Promesa, explaining that Morocco needs Algeria and in particular its gas in this period of energy crisis due to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
