Morocco’s New F-16 Jets to Feature Advanced Viper Shield Electronic Warfare System

The 25 F-16 Block 70/72 combat aircraft ordered last year by Morocco from the United States will be equipped with the Viper Shield electronic warfare system, the U.S. Department of Defense announced on Thursday.
American manufacturer Lockheed Martin, the maker of the F-16 Block 70/72, is also in charge of producing the Viper Shield, which will be delivered to five countries: Morocco, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Slovakia, and Taiwan. Costing $520 million, production is expected to be completed by June 30, 2028.
The Viper Shield, also known as the Electronic Warfare (EW) system, will enhance the security of the F-16s and enable them to carry out their missions successfully. "Its modern, fully digital architecture improves system performance, reduces size and weight, and facilitates future upgrades," explains the American manufacturer L3Harris, producer of the existing electronic warfare systems.
And to continue: "The software-defined technology components of the Viper Shield enable an unprecedented digital radar threat warning system and robust digital countermeasure capabilities in a fully integrated and internally mounted system."
The American firm specializing in the defense and telecommunications sector adds that "the open system design allows for the seamless addition of proven electronic warfare applications, providing leading-edge capability to address emerging and future threats."
