Morocco’s Jet Ski Ban Sparks Outcry Among Beachgoers and Tourism Industry

The ban on Jet Skis on most Moroccan beaches, particularly in the north of the country, has sparked a wave of outrage among fans of this water sport. This decision, taken by the competent authorities, affects both the inhabitants of the region and the tourists who usually frequent these beaches.
Faced with this discontent, the deputy of the Authenticity and Modernity group (PAM), Rafik Majait, has addressed a written question to the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, asking for a review of the measure.
The deputy highlights the importance of the beaches affected by the ban and others, for national recreational tourism, stating that these beaches welcome an increasing number of vacationers and fans of beach tourism each year.
"The sudden ban imposed by the authorities has caused incomprehension and anger among many practitioners and even investors in this leisure and sports activity, especially in summer, the period of return of Moroccans residing abroad," laments the deputy.
According to him, ensuring safety on the beaches does not necessarily require a total ban. He rather proposes better organization and regulation of the practice of Jet Ski, by defining specific schedules and areas on the beach, in accordance with the applicable international standards.
In his written question, the deputy asks the Minister of Equipment and Water about the measures and actions his ministry intends to take to reconsider the decision to ban Jet Ski on the beaches of Nador, while ensuring the safety and protection of all vacationers and tourists.
