Morocco Jails Man for Street Harassment in Landmark Case

The court in Oujda, in eastern Morocco, has just sentenced a man to two months in prison for harassing a young high school student he was courting. He will also have to pay a fine of 500 dirhams.
This is a first in Morocco. Applying law 103-13, a 28-year-old man has just been convicted by the court of first instance in Oujda for harassing a minor girl. The complaint came from the father of the young high school student. And any contact with her is now forbidden to him.
Based on an article from Hespress, Article 19 writes: "the girl’s father had filed a complaint with the Attorney General accusing a man of harassing her on the street as she left her high school, declaring his love for her each time, and even sent an emissary to reiterate his ’flame’ to her".
The accused would have denied everything, but the emissary confirmed everything... And it is the version of the latter that was retained by the court, which considers the whole affair as an "attempt to divert a minor". Because indeed, if the young woman had accepted the advances, it would undoubtedly have been a case of corruption of a minor.
