Morocco Invests Millions in New Mosque Construction and Renovation Amid Pandemic

Several mosques will soon be built or renovated in Morocco. This decision by the supervisory ministry should impact places of worship in several regions of the kingdom.
In the midst of the covid-19 crisis, the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs has awarded contracts worth several tens of millions of dirhams for the construction of new mosques and the renovation of several other places of worship, reports Maghreb Intelligence.
Three new mosques will soon be built in Salé and the work is scheduled to start soon. In addition to Salé, Sidi Kacem and El Jadida are also expected to benefit from these infrastructures. As for the city of Rabat, several mosques will be renovated.
According to a source close to the department of Ahmed Taoufiq, the construction and renovation of mosques had been planned and budgeted for well before the coronavirus crisis.
It should be noted that since the beginning of the pandemic in Morocco, these places of worship have been closed to limit the spread of the virus.
