Morocco Invests Heavily in Stadium Upgrades for 2025 Africa Cup and 2030 World Cup Bid

The government and the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG) signed an agreement on Friday to finance the renovation of six football stadiums and the construction of a new complex in Benslimane as part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup.
The signing of the convention was carried out in the presence of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, with the participation of several government officials, including Chakib Benmoussa and Fouzi Lekjaa.
Particular emphasis has been placed on the modernization of existing stadiums, namely: The Grand Stadium of Tangier, the Mohammed V Complex of Casablanca, the Prince Moulay Abdallah Sports Complex in Rabat, the Grand Stadium of Agadir, the Grand Stadium of Marrakech and the Sports Complex of Fez. This upgrading process aims to meet the regulatory standards of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
In terms of financing, the convention provides for a substantial budget for the renovation and construction of the stadiums. An initial amount of 9.5 billion dirhams is allocated for the first improvements, in line with CAF requirements for 2025. An additional envelope, ranging from 4.5 to 6 billion dirhams, is planned for subsequent adjustments, aligned with FIFA standards for the 2025-2028 period. In addition, the creation of a stadium in Benslimane will mobilize around 5 billion dirhams.
