Morocco Invests 11 Billion Dirhams to Modernize Bus Transportation Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco is striving to improve the quality of urban and intercity bus transportation by 2030, the year it will co-host the World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
11 billion dirhams. This is the envelope allocated to improving the quality of urban and intercity transportation. On the sidelines of the second edition of the Assises de la régionalisation avancée, the government and the twelve regions of the country signed a framework agreement last Friday in Tangier on the financing of the investment program established by the new model of delegated management contracts for public bus transportation. Objective: to guarantee the sustainability and financial balance of the program, in addition to the regular monitoring of these contracts.
"The development of an inclusive and sustainable transport system is now an essential requirement to achieve integrated regional development," stressed King Mohammed VI in a message addressed to the second edition of the Assises. For the sovereign, "it is also a sine qua non condition to reduce spatial and social disparities, at the territorial level". He is "certain that this sector will experience rapid evolution in the coming years," he is convinced. According to his explanations, "this orientation is due to the growing dynamics at work in our country as an attractive regional hub for investments and the large-scale projects launched as part of the ongoing preparations in Morocco to host the 2030 World Cup".
To recall, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, had announced in February last important changes in urban mobility with the updating of the National Strategy and a roadmap for sustainable mobility by 2040. This led to the launch of several studies to rethink the economic model of urban transport and remodel the delegated management contracts.
