Cash Crunch Fears Grip Morocco Ahead of Eid al-Adha Bank Holiday

A few days before the celebration of Eid al-Adha, many Moroccans fear a shortage of cash in automated teller machines (ATMs).
An announcement by the Professional Association of Banks in Morocco concerning Monday, June 9, 2025, is the source of concerns for many bank customers. According to the Association, next Monday would be an exceptional holiday for the banking sector on the occasion of Eid. It has therefore called on all banks to inform their customers and employees of this interruption of activity. This day of inactivity could cause long queues at counters, or a depletion of funds in certain regions, particularly rural areas or in areas that are highly frequented during the Eid holidays.
Faced with citizens’ concerns, banking sector professionals have called for early mobilization to replenish ATMs. They have also recommended setting up technical teams to ensure the continuity of essential services, especially since the Eid holidays will coincide with the weekend.
