Morocco Invests 4.4 Billion Dirhams in Agricultural Subsidies to Boost Sector Growth

Public support for agriculture is being maintained and strengthened in Morocco. This year, around 4.4 billion dirhams in subsidies will be allocated to the sector, for a total investment of 9.2 billion dirhams.
This public investment will be mainly devoted to productive infrastructure, particularly irrigation and agricultural development infrastructure (60%), solidarity agriculture (15%) and the development of production sectors (13%), reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc, specifying that the government’s ambition is to make the agricultural sector a priority lever for socio-economic development in Morocco.
To this end, the executive intends to support the acceleration of the valorization of agricultural products, the emergence of new high-potential sectors, support for the competitiveness of exports and finally maintain the investment effort.
The agricultural subsidy system in place proposes the establishment of new aids in line with the commitments made under the framework agreements signed between the State and the interprofessions of the main production sectors, as well as the strengthening of the aids allocated to certain items, not to mention the encouragement and strong incentive to aggregation, the newspaper points out.
For the record, "the cumulative credits opened through the State General Budget (BGE) reached 81 billion dirhams under the Green Morocco Plan. Resources have increased from 1.6 billion dirhams in 2008 to 10.3 billion dirhams in 2019. 91% of the resources mobilized annually under the State General Budget are executed at the regional level, for a cumulative amount of 72.5 billion dirhams between 2008 and 2019," explains the daily.
