Morocco Invests 500 Million Dirhams Annually in Highway Maintenance, Preserving 150 km of Roads

The national company Moroccan Motorways devotes an envelope of around 500 million dirhams each year to ensure the maintenance of more than 150 km of motorway pavement.

This is what the Managing Director of ADM Project, Omar Sikka, said on Thursday during a workshop on the maintenance of motorway infrastructure, organized in Kenitra by the company, under the theme "major repairs, a necessity to preserve the motorway heritage".

In his presentation, the official recalled that the pavement of the motorways has an estimated lifespan of between 10 and 15 years, specifying that the bridges, for their part, have an estimated lifespan of 50 years. "The deterioration of the pavement requires recurrent maintenance in order to ensure its proper functioning," he added.

According to Sikkal, several factors are at the origin of the deterioration of the pavement, including: the volume of traffic, particularly that of heavy goods vehicles, as well as the climatic conditions.

To this end, ADM has developed an integrated motorway pavement maintenance plan, including a current maintenance program characterized by localized repairs and another periodic maintenance program covering generalized treatments.
