Morocco Invests 300 Million Dirhams to Revitalize Tamansourt Satellite City

Some 300 million dirhams will be invested in Tamansourt for the creation of several economic activity hubs, announced the Regional Investment Center (CRI) of Marrakech. This investment, which is part of the pole of attractiveness project, aims to relaunch the "slow" development of Tamansourt, designed 16 years ago as a pilot satellite city.

The planned pole of attractiveness includes a 30-hectare logistics zone, a hospital, a covered sports hall and a 40-hectare technology park, developed in partnership with the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Morocco. In addition to this infrastructure, the project will relaunch the creation of a university campus that has been on hold since 2014. This campus, which will be carried by Cadi Ayyad, will include three engineering schools and 4 faculties in addition to a university city, according to the newspaper l’Economiste.

For Yassine Mseffer, director of the CRI of Marrakech, this battery of projects is a catch-up opportunity for the realization of the ambitious satellite city project, an ambition weighed down by the lack of activity hub and connectivity problems with the red city.

Designed 16 years ago to decongest Marrakech and become a breeding ground for all kinds of opportunities, Tamansourt has not evolved harmoniously. The city has been able to attract a lot of investment in real estate, which has earned it the title of a dormitory city. However, it is equipped with a high-performance water and electricity network, even though there is only one bus line connecting it to Marrakech. A situation that favors large taxis and other clandestine means that flourish, while there is still no intra-muros connectivity.

"Only Tamansourt can offer significant land that will allow Marrakech to take off its industry," estimates a local operator, referring to the potential of the future satellite city.
