Morocco Invests $260 Million to Boost Tourism, Create 1,600 Jobs

45 draft conventions and addenda totaling 23.38 billion dirhams, of which 11% are earmarked for the tourism sector, were approved on Wednesday by the Investment Commission.
The commission approved several tourism projects for a total amount of 2.6 billion dirhams, to be used among other things for the realization of nearly 1,700 tourist beds and the creation of 1,600 direct and stable jobs.
"Tourism investment continues to have an important place in our economy (11%) and contributes greatly to job creation (48%)," the Ministry of Tourism said in a press release, adding that 59% of tourism investments are of Moroccan origin and 41% come from foreign investors.
In terms of foreign investment, it is important to note the establishment in Morocco of the Portuguese group that owns the Sana Hotels chain, which has several 5-star, 4-star or 3-star hotels in various countries.
These tourism projects validated by the commission also include the realization of spas, restaurants, conference rooms, shops, etc. An amusement park, whose work is estimated at more than 100 million dirhams, will be created in the city of Meknes to strengthen its attractiveness.
According to the press release from the Ministry of Tourism, "these investments contribute to the tourism promotion in the kingdom and the economic dynamism of the territories".
