Morocco Introduces Electronic Family Records to Modernize Civil Registry System

Faced with a shortage of family record books in certain civil registry offices, the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, announced the gradual adoption of electronic family record books.

Responding to a written question from a parliamentary group regarding the shortage of family record books at the civil registry office of the commune of Had Soualem, Abdelouafi Laftit recalled that the new civil registry legislation has introduced the electronic family record book and that measures are being taken to engage the transition to this new system.

To address the shortage of family record books noted in certain communes due to the depletion of remaining stocks, the Ministry of the Interior is working to make a standardized model of the electronic family record book available to the civil registry offices, Laftit said, adding that his department will carry out an inventory of the needs for family record books in all communes in advance.

Once this step is completed, the ministry will launch a public tender to select a service provider who will supply the necessary number of record books to the communes in order to ensure the continuity of the civil registry service, pending the gradual and complete transition to the digital family record book.
