Morocco to Introduce Judeo-Moroccan History in School Curriculum, a First for Arab World

For the first time in the Arab-Muslim world, the history of Jewish culture will be taught in Moroccan schools. This historic decision was announced by the Conference of Presidents of the major American Jewish organizations.
According to the statements of the Conference, the supervisory authorities are awaiting the green light from the highest Moroccan authorities to implement the new resolution, which should see the light of day in the coming months.
The program on the history of Moroccan Judaism, which represents an integral part of Moroccan identity, will thus be taught to primary school students in the near future.
The Judeo-Moroccan culture, 2,000 years old, is rooted in Moroccan history and is part of its heritage. According to Mohammed Ameskane, an expert on Moroccan Jewish heritage, "you can’t erase more than 2,000 years of existence and coexistence of Morocco’s buried history," before adding "the Jews of Morocco will never forget their country. Moroccans will never forget their Jews."
