Morocco's Internet Costs Surge: Middle Ground in Global Broadband Pricing

With an average cost of $1.16 per megabit per second (Mbps), Morocco is in the upper middle range globally in terms of the cost of fixed broadband internet, according to an infographic published by Visual Capitalist in 2025.

The platform compared the price of fixed broadband in more than 60 countries, reporting the cost relative to the average speed actually offered.

The United Arab Emirates tops the ranking with $4.31/Mbps, nearly double that of Ghana ($2.58), which is in second place. Switzerland ($2.70) and Kenya ($1.54) follow.

These high costs are often explained by limited competition, costly infrastructure, and regulatory or geographical constraints.

Morocco, with its $1.16/Mbps, remains more expensive than several Asian or European countries, despite the progress made in fiber optic coverage and the democratization of broadband. This places the kingdom far behind the champions of digital accessibility such as Romania ($0.01), Russia ($0.02) and Poland ($0.03).

Eastern Europe dominates the ranking thanks to strong competition and sustained public investment in digital infrastructure.

Some Asian countries, such as Vietnam, China or South Korea, also offer very fast and low-cost access, sometimes around $0.05/Mbps.
