Morocco Boosts Hotel Wi-Fi Ahead of Africa Cup of Nations 2025

According to a recent report by Ookla, a company specializing in connectivity data analysis, the number of fixed Internet and Wi-Fi subscriptions in major hotels in Morocco has increased considerably due to the upcoming summer season and the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) that the kingdom will host from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
The number of fixed Internet subscriptions reached about 2.6 million in September 2024, compared to only 1.6 million in 2019, according to data from Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT). This digital transformation strengthens Morocco’s position as a tourist destination, in view of CAN Morocco 2025 and the 2030 World Cup, notes the report.
Continuous investments in fiber optics and preparations for the launch of 5G will allow Morocco to provide smooth and fast connections to the thousands of visitors expected for these two sporting events. In terms of fixed Internet performance, the cities of Rabat and Casablanca lead nationally, with an average speed of 36.55 Mbps for Rabat and 35.57 Mbps for Casablanca, according to Speedtest Intelligence data for the fourth quarter of 2024.
Regarding Wi-Fi performance in luxury hotels, some establishments in Agadir and Marrakech stand out with download speeds of 72.27 Mbps for The View hotel, 55.72 Mbps for the Riu Palace Tikida hotel, and 54.64 Mbps for La Mamounia. However, the report notes disparities in the quality of Wi-Fi service in some classified hotels in Rabat and Casablanca, despite the availability of fiber optic networks.
This situation is reportedly due to technical problems related to the configuration of access points or their location in hotels, indicates the report, which calls for modernization of equipment and improvement of internal network distribution.
