Morocco’s Internet Access Surges: 74% of Households Now Connected, ANRT Survey Shows

74% of Moroccan households are equipped with internet access, or 6 million households, according to data provided by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT).
The internet penetration rate in Moroccan households is increasing. This is the result of the survey to collect ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) indicators, conducted by ANRT in 2018, among households and individuals. It is edifying. It reveals that eight out of ten households in urban areas are equipped with internet access, compared to 6 out of 10 in rural areas.
This survey, which covered a sample of nearly 5,400 households and individuals, reports the equipment of 7 out of 10 households with mobile internet, and the generalization of the smartphone among young people.
The vast majority of individuals aged over 5 use a telephone. Of this number, 75.7% own a smartphone, for a total of 22.5 million. 3 out of 4 individuals are connected and nearly 6 out of 10 internet users spend more than an hour on the internet. On social networks, which win the gold medal in terms of usage, 20.1 million individuals participate. Regarding the use of social networks, 8 out of 10 internet users are concerned. E-commerce, on the other hand, is showing a 21.3% increase. A return to fixed telephony is observed in urban areas, out of a concern for connectivity.
