Morocco’s Industrial Sector Shows Growth in Food and Metallurgy, BAM Survey Reveals

Industrial production and sales increased in June 2019. This is the main finding of the Monthly Business Survey in Industry, carried out by Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM).
The food, mechanical and metallurgical sectors are the three branches of activity whose production has increased, according to the results of the opinion survey carried out by Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM). Conversely, production in the chemicals and parachimicals sectors, as well as in textiles and leather, has declined.
According to the same source, an increase in sales is observed in the local and foreign markets in "agri-food" and in two other sectors: "mechanics and metallurgy". But sales would be in sharp decline in two others: "chemicals and parachimicals" and at the level of two others: "textiles and leather".
As for orders, an improvement would have been noted in "agri-food" and in two others: "mechanics and metallurgy". However, they stagnate compared to two others: "chemicals and parachimicals" and decrease in two more: "textiles and leather". Worse, order books would have been below normal in all sectors of activity, except for "agri-food" where they would have been at a normal level, details BAM.
In the face of this picture, the survey indicates that the Capacity Utilization Rate (CUR) would have stood at 75%.
To achieve these results, BAM defined a representative sample of nearly 400 industrial companies.
