Morocco’s Industrial Sector Creates Over 400,000 Jobs in 4 Years, Automotive Leads Growth

The Moroccan industry has created just over 405,000 jobs between 2014 and 2018, according to the Ministry of Industry in a press release detailing the first results of the Industrial Acceleration Plan (PAI).
These figures represent 81% of the set objectives, the ministry is pleased to say, with 49% of the jobs being held by women and 21% of the creations having been made thanks to companies set up following the launch of this plan.
In detail, it is the automotive sector that has created the most jobs (116,611 positions, or 28.8% of the total creations), followed by textiles (79,300 jobs and 19.6% of the total), offshoring (69,932 or 17%), agri-food (63,198 or 15.6%), the metallurgical and mechanical industry (19,776 or 5%), the construction materials industry (11,302) and aeronautics (8,636).
During the same period, the kingdom’s exports increased from 161 billion dirhams in 2013 to 240 billion in 2018, an increase of around 50% in 5 years, it is also read.
To establish this first assessment, the ministry relied on data from the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), it is further stated in this press release.
