Morocco Imposes Ramadan Night Curfew as COVID-19 Deaths Rise, PM Explains

The implementation of the new restrictive measures in Morocco during the month of Ramadan is necessary given the health situation. Although it is difficult to accept, this is what must be done, said Prime Minister Saad Dine El Otmani.
During the Government Council held on Thursday by videoconference, Prime Minister Saad Dine El Otmani indicated that the extension of the restrictive measures and the implementation of a night curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. throughout the month of Ramadan, were decided due to the increase in deaths due to Covid-19 within the population. Thus, the Prime Minister urges citizens to have faith in the health system, its specialists and its leaders, "because we have experts, civil servants and departments who, thanks to their experience and expertise, develop purely Moroccan national decisions," he stressed.
Although the month of Ramadan is of the utmost importance, especially in Morocco and given the multiple rules that characterize it, the measures will have to be respected, noting that the circulation of some false information has led many citizens to carelessness in observing these measures. In this sense, given the difficulties of these restrictions and their social and economic impacts, the government has decided to continue to provide assistance to workers in certain professions and sectors.
Recalling the resistance shown by the Kingdom in the face of "Covid-19", El Otmani indicated that this has allowed our country during this period to avoid the worst and overcome the many challenges of this scourge. As the month of Ramadan approaches, diligent work has been carried out for several weeks to study the situation with the parties concerned and the scientific committee, he specified.
Regarding vaccination, Morocco is among the first countries to have launched the campaign. Until today, the people vaccinated with the two doses exceed 4 million and Moroccans can rejoice in this exploit, welcomed the Prime Minister who deplores nearly 9,000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, an important figure, but far from the tens of thousands that the country would have reached without the observance of preventive measures.
