Marrakech Residents Outraged: Palm Tree Planting Sparks Climate Controversy

The residents of the Al Massira neighborhood in Marrakech have expressed their anger following the publication on social networks of images showing the planting of new palm trees in a green space, questioning the usefulness of planting palm trees in the city.
Many internet users have denounced the continuation of this policy by the local authorities, in particular the municipal council and the Menara district, considering that the planting of palm trees in the city does not meet the environmental needs of the residents and does not integrate the ecological dimension in the management of public spaces.
Why plant palm trees in a city with a semi-desert climate, asked the internet users who let it be known that these plants "do not provide shade and do not reduce the heat", unlike deciduous trees, recommended to mitigate the effects of high temperatures and improve air quality.
Some internet users have asked the municipal council to abandon this "policy of superficial decoration" and to adopt an environmental policy that takes into account the aesthetic and health aspects of the ochre city, in a context of climate change and rising temperatures.
