Morocco Imposes 30% Anti-Dumping Duty on Egyptian Tomato Imports

Published in the Official Journal, the joint decision of the Minister of Industry and Trade and his counterpart of Economy and Finance, to apply an anti-dumping duty on imports of Egyptian tomato concentrate is now in effect.
Morocco imposes a provisional anti-dumping duty of 29.93% on imports of Egyptian tomato concentrate for a period of six months. The amount of the duty will be deposited with the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration to be definitively collected for the benefit of the Treasury or refunded to the importers concerned, it is specified. The imposed dumping duty was determined "on the basis of the data contained in the article presented by the national production sector. The normal value was thus calculated on the basis of the "ex-factory" prices obtained from the publications of the large distribution stores operating on the Egyptian market. As for the export price, it was also calculated on the basis of the import prices obtained from the sales data of the large distribution stores in Morocco."
In effect since May 31, this joint decision of the Minister of Industry and Trade and the Minister of Economy and Finance aims to protect the national canned tomato industry facing unfair competition. To recall, the Ministry of Industry and Trade had initiated an anti-dumping investigation on imports of tomato concentrate from Egypt, following a complaint filed by the National Federation of Agri-Food (Fenagri), on behalf of the national production branch (BPN).
