Morocco: hundreds of new radars to monitor motorists

The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) is continuing the generalization of the use of fixed and mobile radars installed on board vehicles. The measure has been in effect in the Drâa-Tafilalet region since Monday, after the regions of Fès-Meknès, Souss-Massa, and Guelmim-Oued Noun last week.
These radars aim to control speed in both directions and on six different lanes simultaneously. The measure will gradually extend to the other regions of the kingdom and is expected to help reduce road accident cases.
The National Road Safety Agency has made available to the General Directorate of National Security and the Royal Gendarmerie about 670 fixed radars and some 780 mobile radars. This equipment will be deployed in all regions throughout the kingdom.
Each region will be entitled to one radar, with the exception of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra-Témara, Casablanca-Settat and Drâa-Tafilalet which, due to their high population density, will each benefit from two radars.
