Morocco’s Housing Aid Program Draws Strong Interest from Diaspora

The housing assistance program is successful with Moroccans residing abroad (MREs). Out of more than 110,000 applications registered, nearly a quarter, or 26% of the total, come from the Moroccan diaspora.
In her intervention on Monday, during the oral question session at the House of Representatives, Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, the Minister of Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy, revealed that more than 35,000 Moroccans and MREs have already benefited from this program launched by the government in January 2024 to meet the needs of the middle class and low-income individuals.
At the current stage, 63% of the beneficiaries have already received a financial aid of 70,000 dirhams, and 37% have obtained a direct support of 100,000 dirhams for housing, detailed the minister, emphasizing the economic impact of the program which has facilitated the recovery of the construction sector. This is evidenced by the increase in cement sales (+9.45%), real estate loans (+1.7%) and loans granted to real estate developers (+7.2%).
The housing assistance program has also addressed an injustice by taking into account cities such as Fez, Settat, El Jadida, Benslimane, Oujda, Berkane and Taza, which had not benefited from previous programs, stressed Fatima Zahra El Mansouri, noting that in terms of housing, nearly 727,000 residential units have been built by the end of November 2024, as part of the
