Morocco Hosts ’Phoenix Express 2019’ Mediterranean Maritime Security Exercise

Morocco will host the 2019 edition of Phoenix Express, maritime security military exercises in the Mediterranean in which many countries in the region and some American (USA and Canada) and non-Mediterranean European countries such as Denmark last year participate.
This exercise aims, according to Media24, to "improve regional cooperation and increase information sharing practices in the maritime field and operational capabilities to strengthen security in the Mediterranean Sea".
Cooperation is the watchword in all editions of Phoenix Express to fight, among other things, illegal immigration and illicit trafficking, as well as to refine search and rescue procedures for distressed ships.
The previous edition, that of 2018 (the exercise is annual), took place in Greece and. In addition to Morocco and the United States, it saw the participation of Algeria, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, the Netherlands, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey, according to the Defenceweb website.
