Morocco Hosts First Israeli Independence Day Celebration in Years, Sparking Mixed Reactions

The Israel Liaison Office in Morocco organized on July 5 in Rabat a ceremony marking the celebration of the 74th anniversary of the independence of the Hebrew state. A first in years.
The event was marked by the presence of the King’s Advisor André Azoulay, said David Govrin, chargé d’affaires of the Israeli representation in Morocco.
For the Israeli official, this celebration is a "historic event testifying to the values of peace and tolerance in Morocco."
According to the majority of the population in Arab countries, this holiday represents the anniversary of the Nakba (catastrophe): the day of the occupation of Palestine.
