Irish travel agencies are reporting an unprecedented surge in bookings for next January and February. Traumatised by an especially rainy winter, marked by the highest rainfall levels in Dublin since 1948, customers are now planning their holidays a year in advance to secure their place in the sun, reports Irish independent.

The market reflects growing interest in North Africa at the expense of the usual options. According to industry professionals, many customers are “choosing holidays in Morocco” to avoid the price increases seen in the Canary Islands, now favouring stays of two weeks or more to escape the local climate for longer.

This trend toward early planning is explained by a widespread fear that the weather conditions will repeat themselves next year. “They are afraid the weather will be the same at this time next year,” says Maura Doran of Best4Travel, noting that early planning is becoming an essential strategy amid limited immediate availability.

Although Spain and Portugal remain safe bets, the departure calendar is expanding toward new horizons. Bookings now extend into March, April and May, with the latter becoming more popular than the traditional July summer period because of more competitive prices and a wider choice of destinations.
