Morocco’s Historical Sites See 155% Surge in Visitors, Boosting Tourism Revenue

Revenues from historical sites in the different regions of the Kingdom have seen a substantial increase of 5.87 million dirhams between January and mid-July 2019, compared to the same period in 2016. According to the Ministry of Culture and Communication, a revenue of 90 million dirhams was recorded.
During the first half of 2019, the number of visitors to heritage sites reached more than 1.5 million, up 155% compared to the same period in 2016, for a total of 588,633 visitors, according to the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
With an ideal management strategy encompassing legal, institutional, financial and human aspects, the Ministry intends to improve and develop services likely to attract more visitors and generate more revenue.
These actions, specifies the Department of Culture and Communication of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, aim to preserve and enhance the material civilizational heritage, historical sites and monuments, all of which are a lever for economic development and a pillar in the achievement of sustainable development in the Kingdom.
