Morocco’s Highway Traffic Plummets 75% Amid COVID-19 Lockdown

Autoroutes du Maroc (ADM) observed, between March 25 and 30, a record drop in traffic of 75%, for all vehicles combined, due to the state of health emergency imposed by the government to counter the spread of covid-19.
The coronavirus is not sparing the transport sector since the ban on travel between cities by the Ministry of the Interior. Over the period from March 25 to 30, the company recorded an average drop of 75% compared to traffic over the same period last year, with all types of vehicles combined.
For example, March 29 saw a 93% drop in light vehicles. As for heavy goods vehicles, the use of the motorway network has seen a sharp decline (89%) compared to last year. These figures, although impacting the transport sector, show that confinement is respected by the majority of the population.
In addition, ADM has set up a system to ensure that its customer-users, forced to use the motorway during this period, have access to breakdown assistance, fuel distribution, rest areas, and traffic supervision.
