Morocco Grapples with Rising Stray Dog Population, Public Safety Concerns

The proliferation of stray dogs in Moroccan cities is increasingly worrying the population, who are calling for urgent and effective measures. Calls are multiplying to definitively solve this thorny problem.
Sources of several cases of death, these canines, in growing numbers on Moroccan streets, represent a real danger to the population, despite the many campaigns initiated by the municipalities to deal with it. The question arises as to whether the problem is insoluble and voices are calling on the State to be concerned about the situation.
Agadir, Casablanca, Marrakech, Salé, etc., stray dogs are still dictating their law, causing more and more victims, reports Maroc-Hebdo, which recalls the latest drama caused by these animals. On the night of Tuesday, September 13 to Wednesday, September 14, a 5-year-old child was devoured in Drarga, located in the suburbs of Agadir.
"I regularly come across a group of stray dogs on the corniche during my jogging. An intriguing situation, especially in this place very frequented by users. The authorities must tackle this problem head-on to avoid tragedies," alerted a resident of Casablanca.
Denouncing this phenomenon which constitutes a real public health and sanitation problem, several parliamentarians have recently questioned Minister Abdelouafi Laftit on the concrete measures his department intends to take to fight against this worrying presence of the beasts. A situation he considers worrying and which, according to him, requires urgent decisions.
