Morocco Grants National Preference to Local Printers for School Textbook Production

The Moroccan government has just granted the Moroccan Grouping of Printing Trades the gift of national preference. This decision comes in response to the multiple demands of the players in this sector who have always denounced the awarding of the market for the printing of hundreds of millions of school textbooks and notebooks to foreign countries.
Following his appointment last month as head of the Moroccan Grouping of Printing Trades, Advertising Industry and Event Manufacturers (GMI Maroc), Tarik Lallouch had announced that during his term (2021-2023), efforts would be multiplied to reach an agreement with the Ministries of National Education and Industry so that national preference is established for the printing of school books by Moroccan operators.
It is in this sense that the Federation of Forest Industries, Graphic Arts and Packaging (FIFAGE) and the Moroccan Grouping of Printing Trades (GMI) announced on February 27 that their efforts have paid off. Thus, the wish for national preference for the printing of school textbooks and notebooks, expected for about fifteen years, during which the printing was done in Italy or Spain, has become a reality. This decision, which reflects the Moroccan government’s willingness to promote the national industry, marks the official support of the printing trades, offering them happy prospects.
This good news comes to restore confidence to more than 3,000 printers operating in Morocco. From now on, they will be able to revive this sector, which is grinding, due to the digital transformation and the current health crisis and its consequences. As a result, more than 20,000 direct jobs and more than 3,000 indirect jobs are thus saved.
