Morocco’s Goalkeeper Bounou Confident of AFCON Victory After 46-Year Drought

Moroccans have had to wait a very long time and the ambitions are high for the next Africa Cup of Nations. Yassine Bounou, the goalkeeper of the Atlas Lions, wants to end this 46-year drought.
Interviewed by Goal, the Sevilla goalkeeper is certain that the next AFCON will be for Morocco, as the current generation has the quality to compete in Cameroon next year.
After the disappointing participation in Egypt, "we are waiting for it with a lot of optimism, we have a lot of great players and the team is currently able to fight and compete to reach the top and win the Africa Cup of Nations," said Bounou.
When asked about their chances of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he said: "The same thing, we are convinced that the Moroccan team will be one of the 5 teams that will qualify for Qatar, but it is clear that there is a very good rise in the level of the other teams and the most important objective is to reach the World Cup."
Yassine Bounou, 30, is one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga, with a series of impressive performances for Sevilla.
"My goal in the coming period is always to shine, whether at the personal level or with the team in general, and what really matters are the achievements of the team, and we have established a good model for the current season, and the key to achieving these achievements is to continue and insist on reaching our goal," Bounou concluded.
