Morocco’s Fuel Prices Soar: Opposition Party Claims World’s Highest Rates

The Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) reacted to the continuous rise in fuel prices in Morocco, estimating that the price of gasoline practiced in the kingdom is the highest in the world.
The political bureau of the party, through its secretary general, Nabil Benabdellah, expressed its concern about the continuous rise in fuel prices in Morocco.
According to the official, the government must act quickly. The fuel prices practiced in the kingdom are the highest in the world, he estimated, questioning the policy adopted by the government on the matter.
To this end, Benabdellah recommended that the executive use the means conferred on it by law to regulate prices and curb increases, in particular by reducing the excise tax and encouraging hydrocarbon distribution companies to show moderation in the level of exorbitant profits estimated at billions of dirhams.
The party also called on the government to assume its responsibility in resolving the situation of SAMIR and in its reactivation, given the heavy financial losses that the national economy is suffering from its closure, the lack of refining and the weakness of storage capacities, which only further strengthen Morocco’s dependence on global hydrocarbon price fluctuations.
