Morocco’s Fruit and Vegetable Exports Surge 9%, Reaching 474,900 Tons in January

In January 2021, fruit and vegetable exports amounted to 474,900 tons, said the Minister of Agriculture Aziz Akhannouch. In 10 years, agricultural exports have experienced sustained growth, increasing from 17.2 billion dirhams in 2010 to nearly 40 billion last season, an increase of 130%.
This performance is explained not only by the fruits of the exceptional efforts made by producers and exporters, but also thanks to the action of the Autonomous Establishment for the Control and Coordination of Exports and the National Office of Food Safety, said Minister Akhannouch, in response to an oral question on the progress of the current agricultural season.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, fruit and vegetable exports increased by 9% compared to the previous season, including 260,100 tons of tomatoes (+1%) and 286,300 tons of citrus fruits (+12%).
As for processed agricultural products, they amounted to 477,800 tons of processed agricultural products (excluding sugar and derivatives), an increase of 12%, including 69,800 tons of frozen strawberries (+2%), 21,200 tons of fruit juices and nectars (+28%), 813,300 tons of fishery product exports (+7%).
In his presentation, Aziz Akhannouch specified that the year 2020 was particularly difficult at all levels due to the weakness of rainfall and the circumstances of the state of health emergency in the context of Covid-19.
