Morocco’s Fruit and Vegetable Exports to Spain Surge 8% Despite Pandemic

Despite the pandemic, Morocco’s fruit and vegetable exports to Spain amounted to 583 million euros between January and August 2020, according to data from the Spanish customs and special tax service, processed by FEPEX.
Morocco is Spain’s main supplier for its imports of fresh fruits and vegetables, reports agrimaroc.ma. Over the same period, they experienced an 8% increase compared to the previous year for a total of 2.078 billion euros.
Regarding Spanish imports of fruits, they amounted to 1.495 billion euros, or 15% more than in 2019. They experienced an 8% increase at a rate of 1.2 million tons. Avocado is one of the most imported fruits with 216 million euros (+12%). It is followed by kiwi (163.5 million euros, +24%), blueberry (132 million +48%).
As for vegetable imports, they experienced a 5% decline, 583 million euros due to a 15% drop in potato imports (174 million euros, or 30% of the total. It is followed by tomato with 101 million euros, or 6%. At the vegetable level, imports remained stable at a rate of 967,132 tons as in 2019.
