Morocco’s Former Coach Hervé Renard Reflects on Positive National Team Experience

He was one of the best coaches at the head of the Atlas Lions. Hervé Renard, the national team coach from 2016 to 2019, looks back on his time in Morocco. Between hope and fear, he secured a much-sought-after qualification for the World Cup in his first year, with, he acknowledges, a united locker room.
"When I arrived in Morocco, they promised me hell somewhere. ’Beware, the players, there are a lot of clans, it’s difficult.’ But I didn’t really feel that, I felt players who were involved and with a remarkable state of mind, a captain Mehdi Benatia who was sublime in his role on the field and with his teammates. We would have to name them all because they all deserve it," the technician said on the Qatari channel Al Kass.
Despite the disappointment of the 2019 CAN, still on his mind, the French technician, current coach of Saudi Arabia, has good memories with Morocco.
