Morocco’s Foreign Investment Surges 2%, France Remains Top Investor

France is the leader in Moroccan foreign direct investment (FDI) which reached 13.43 billion dirhams between January and September 2022, an increase of 2% compared to the same period last year.
Despite the underperformance observed at the end of June 2022, the latest statistics from the Office des Changes indicate that Moroccan foreign direct investment is on an upward trend, standing at 13.43 billion dirhams over the first nine months of the year, an increase of 2% (260 million dirhams) compared to the same period in 2021. "As for the net flow of FDI, it is marking, for the first nine months of the year, double-digit growth," i.e. an increase of 44.8%, (1.32 billion dirhams), reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc.
The net flow of FDI reached 2.45 billion dirhams during the period, an increase of 431 million dirhams according to the Office des Changes. France captured 895 million dirhams of this flow in the first six months of the year, i.e. 36.47%, compared to 1.44 billion dirhams in 2021. The Netherlands follow with a flow of 530 million dirhams against 38 million dirhams in 2021.
In Senegal, the net flow of FDI in the first half of the year is around 300 million dirhams, i.e. at the same level as in 2021. It is around 277 million dirhams in the United Arab Emirates, a slight increase compared to 2021. "Moroccan investments in Luxembourg have improved significantly, going from a negative balance of -699 million dirhams to a net flow of 194 million dirhams," the same source indicates. At the same time, Côte d’Ivoire, 2nd last year, is this year in 7th place.
By sector, financial and insurance activities remain in the lead, followed by real estate activities. "We also observe net investments of around 11 million dirhams in specialized, scientific and technical activities and 1 million dirhams in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning sector," it is pointed out.
