Morocco's Football Revolution: From World Cup Success to Women's Development

Laure Boulleau, a former French international, chose Morocco, a semi-finalist in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, as the theme for her latest episode of "24 hours of Boulleau", available on MyCanal. She notably praised the management of Moroccan football.

"When they structured their football, they had a collective vision of things, whereas they could have wanted to develop only men’s football. But they expanded. With this first World Cup (July 20-August 20) (women’s), there were things to tell. There is a Frenchman there (Reynald Pedros). With the young people too, they structure a lot. In futsal too, there are a lot of players. Everything is done intelligently. That’s also what I wanted to highlight. Women’s football, there is still work to be done but for a start it’s good. Qualifying, that’s already great," said Laure Boulleau in an interview with Le Parisien.

If there is something that surprised the former French international, it is the number of pitches: "I’ve never seen that. In the cities, there is a 5-a-side pitch every 100 m. I was almost jealous (laughs). When I was little in Auvergne, we were looking for a pitch and here, there are everywhere. I would have liked to be a little girl starting football there." Boulleau confesses to have also been surprised by the passion for football. "I did the Morocco-Brazil match at the end of March. I already knew it would be crazy... But that’s why I love football too: the passion, seeing happy people go to the stadium, an incredible tifo. I love those atmospheres. I really loved it. Plus, they beat Brazil. I felt lucky. Everything went perfectly."
