Morocco: "Floating Hotels
Morocco has launched a vast program to modernize its coastal port infrastructure. This strategy, led by the National Ports Agency (ANP), aims to adapt the country’s reception capacities in anticipation of major upcoming global events, chief among them the 2030 World Cup.
The projects concern several strategic sites, including the ports of Casablanca, Tangier City, Tangier Med, Nador Beni Ansar, Nador West Med, Saïdia and Agadir. The objective is to ensure the expansion of these ports and to equip them with the necessary infrastructure to accommodate large ships, luxury yachts and cruise ships, in order to house the expected supporters and VIP guests.
A strategy of "floating hotels"
This qualitative transformation of logistics services and mooring infrastructure is part of the commitments made by Morocco as a co-organizer of the World Cup, alongside Spain and Portugal. The approach aims to ensure smooth coordination and excellent services between the ports of the three nations.
One of the solutions considered is to transform these large cruise ships into "floating hotels" during the duration of the tournament. This option, which allows for a considerable increase in accommodation capacity, has already been used during the World Cup in Qatar and is also planned for the 2026 edition in the United States.
