Morocco’s Fixed Speed Cameras Generate $6.6 Million in Traffic Fines

Thanks to the fixed speed cameras placed on the road network, Moroccan courts have issued 182,354 judgments related to detected violations and offenses, for a total amount of 66,655,821 dirhams.
Taking stock of the national road safety strategy, on the sidelines of the National Road Safety Day, the Minister of Justice, Abdelatif Ouahbi, stated that Morocco is gradually giving itself the means to reduce deaths related to road traffic offenses.
On this occasion, the sector’s stakeholders took the opportunity to evaluate the gains obtained, to examine the obstacles and constraints that prevent the objectives of the National Road Safety Strategy 2017-2026 from being achieved.
Thus, the Moroccan justice system has issued 182,354 judgments related to violations and offenses detected by fixed speed cameras, with a total amount of 66,655,821 dirhams. Of this amount.
Furthermore, he indicates, a set of measures is being put in place by his department, for greater efficiency in reducing road accidents. And to add that "with the installation of new radars equipped with advanced technologies [...], the number of offenses should increase, which will impact the number of tickets and offenses recorded".
