Morocco’s Finance Minister to Face Parliament on COVID-19 Economic Response

Faced with the deep crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic, the Minister of Economy, Finance and Public Administration Reform is expected on Monday in parliament for a major oral on the economy.
Before the House of Representatives, the minister will have to respond on Monday to the concerns of deputies on austerity, the supplementary finance law, the LPL, the restart scenario, aid to businesses and households, and the lifting of the ceiling on external financing.
According to Aujourd’hui le Maroc, the kingdom’s finance minister will have to prepare sufficiently to convince the opposition on most of the economic and financial choices made over the past eight weeks.
During the parliamentary debate in the lower house, the minister will also give a presentation on the supplementary finance law, a much-anticipated subject for several parliamentarians, particularly those from the Istiqlal (opposition) party.
The other point of divergence concerns the rationalization of expenditure suggested by the Minister of Finance and adopted by the government. In front of the deputies, the minister will have to choose the right arguments to convince both the political parties, the business world and the public opinion.
In addition, the parliamentarians will also take stock with the minister on the economic measures in favor of businesses and households. Despite the very broad consensus around the measures decreed by the CVE (Economic Monitoring Committee) in which Benchaâboun is an influential member, the implementation of these measures has sometimes been accompanied by some glitches that have animated the public debate in recent weeks.
