Morocco's Fez-Meknes Region Launches $170 Million Tourism Investment Plan

56 tourism projects worth a total of 1.715 billion DH (MMDH) have been launched in the Fez-Meknes region, announced the regional tourism delegate in Fez, Ahmed El Khemlichi.

During a regional meeting in Fez on the development of a tourism recovery plan, the regional official noted that these projects could strengthen the accommodation capacity of hotel structures, with 4,444 additional beds.

In detail, these 56 projects are divided between the cities of Fez, which benefit from 17 projects for an envelope of 894 million DH. As for Meknes, it hosts 10 projects for an amount of 193 million DH. As for Ifrane, it wins 19 projects for an amount of 277 million DH.

As for Moulay Yaacoub and Taza, they obtain respectively 3 projects estimated at 174 million DH and 1 project for 3 million DH. To this are added the provinces of El Hajeb and Sefrou, with respectively 4 projects (163 million DH) and 2 projects at a rate of 11 million DH.

For the regional tourism delegate in Fez, the crisis linked to the Covid-19 pandemic has led to a virtual halt in tourism activity, from March 20 to June 10, 2020. "The tourism sector, all branches combined, remains, to this day, seriously impacted by the crisis," he added, pointing to the "lack of visibility for the relaunch of tourism activity, particularly with the stand-by of international service."

During this meeting, the managers of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), tourism professionals and the managers of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Fez-Meknes, the Office announced their ambition to put Fez and Meknes on the starting blocks of the recovery. "The region having been particularly impacted by the crisis, the recovery strategy will have to be particularly offensive and the levers will have to be activated quickly," the ONMT specified.
