Morocco Favored as CAF Set to Announce 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Host in September

The host country of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will be known before September, the African Football Confederation (CAF) announced on Thursday, during a meeting of its Executive Committee. Originally scheduled for February 10, the announcement of the host country had been postponed several times and was expected in July.
CAF justified this decision by explaining that it would allow them to carry out new inspection visits. These took place from March 20 to April 2 and concerned several potential candidates, including Morocco, Algeria, Benin, Nigeria and Zambia.
The competition had been awarded to Guinea in 2014, but the latter was stripped of it in October 2022 due to delays in preparations and concerns related to the Ebola epidemic. Since then, several countries have expressed interest in hosting the event, but Morocco seems to be the favorite. The kingdom has already hosted the CAN in 1988 and recently hosted the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
CAF also announced the opening of the bidding process for the 2027 edition of the CAN, in response to many requests from member associations and their governments. The two host countries will be announced simultaneously before September of this year.
