Morocco Fans Criticize New Puma-Designed National Team Jersey After AFCON Qualifier

The German equipment manufacturer Puma is under fire for the quality of the jersey that the Atlas Lions wore during the match between Morocco and Gabon counting for the first round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which ended in a crushing victory (4-1) for Walid Regragui’s protégés.

The Morocco jersey does not please the supporters of the Atlas Lions. According to them, the current design does not meet expectations and does not reflect the status of the team on the international stage. Many supporters did not hesitate to compare an image of the Spanish-Moroccan striker of Real Madrid Brahim Dìaz wearing the jersey of the Moroccan national team to another where he wears that of his club. The difference in quality and design is striking. Some internet users believe that this image represents very bad publicity on a global scale for Puma and for the Moroccan national team, given the status of the player and the publication of his photo with the jersey of the Atlas Lions after the match on his Instagram page, where the stars of Real Madrid interacted with him.

"The Moroccan team is now part of the elite and needs high-quality jerseys, tailored to each individual player," they stressed, noting that the German equipment manufacturer does not meet the ambitions of a global team like Morocco, which reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and has well promoted Puma from a marketing point of view. Moroccan supporters then demand an improvement in the designs and materials used, up to the level of the Moroccan national team, and which strengthens its image in major competitions.

Some supporters regret that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) signed a contract with Puma in 2019 to replace Adidas, with the aim of developing the jerseys of the national teams and doubling the federation’s profits, and that expectations have not been met. Most of the jerseys proposed by the German equipment manufacturer have, on several occasions, been the subject of criticism.
