Morocco Faces Sharp Gasoline Price Hike as Summer Demand Surges

Moroccan motorists continue to experience a painful situation. The price of gasoline is expected to rise again this Thursday, June 16, 2022.
As of June 16, unleaded gasoline will cost 18.27 DH/L. The significant imbalance between supply and demand is behind this new increase. "Since we are only at the beginning of the summer season, known to record very high demand for fuels due to consumption, it is not surprising to see another increase in the price at the pump," explains a source to the newspaper Les Inspirations Éco.
Another situation creating this imbalance: "in addition to the tourist movements that can be observed all over the world, there is the return of China to consumption after a relative drowsiness due to Covid, combined with an inability of the refineries in operation to meet demand," adds the same source.
