Morocco Faces Potential Bread Price Hike Amid Market Instability

Bad news for consumers. The price of bread could rise soon in Morocco, due to instability in the domestic market.
Despite the measures taken by the government to limit the effects of the rise in raw material prices on world markets, bread could join the long list of commodities whose prices continue to rise in the country.
The reason is that the Moroccan Federation of Bakeries and Pastries has indicated in a press release that it is "completely free from the reference price of bread set at 1.20 dirhams," specifying that there is "no agreement with the government in the direction of maintaining the mentioned price."
The organization deplored the lack of government support, calling for "the establishment of an organic law for the bakery and pastry sector governing the production, distribution and marketing of bread."
Among other demands, these industry professionals have also demanded the development of a program contract to organize, rehabilitate and develop the bakery and pastry sector, as well as to develop a government strategy to integrate the informal sector into the bread and pastry industry.
